Canterbury City Council put to tender the construction of a gross pollutant trap in Turrella Reserve.Â
Stormwater from Turrella Reserve runs into Wolli Creek which then flows into the Cooks River. The goal of the project was reduce pollutants being flushed into the Cooks River.
Construction of the GPT required deep excavation in sandy ground requiring sheet piling for shoring. The GPT was built in-situ with the highest wall being 4.6m. Concrete had to being pumped in due to the location in the reserve.
Concrete uncovered during excavation was sent for recycling.
The lid required 9 grates be incorporated in it. The lid was constructed off-site by Cockerills and transported to site. The vanes and screens were also fabricated by Cockerills and then transported to site and installed.
Restoration of the site required topsoil and turfing to finished levels.
